Getting the tone right for the age

Children’s invitations want saturated colour, friendly rounded type and a theme a five-year-old can name. Teen and twenties parties want something closer to a gig poster. Milestone birthdays want restraint — one accent, a good serif, and space.

Naming the age and the theme in the prompt does most of that work. "Jungle animals, turning five" and "black tie, turning fifty" produce cards with nothing in common, which is the point.

What parents actually need on an invitation

For a children’s party, the practical details matter more than the design: start and end time, the address, whether food is provided, whether adults stay, and an RSVP contact. Leaving out the end time generates more messages than any other omission.

Include those in the prompt and they are set into the card in a readable block rather than squeezed onto the back in a script font.
